The Sexual Risk Avoidance program (SRAE) targets 10-13 year olds for sexual risk avoidance education in middle school and after school programs across Brownsville and East New York. The program focuses on goal setting for youth as a tool to educate on how early sexual activity can have negative impact in the vision they have for their lives.
The SRAE Team was able to successfully advocate with the District 23 Superintendent to have incorporate the SRAE program into District 23 middle schools which means we will be able to reach more students and their families!

BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers is pleased to announce that its Women, Infants and Children (BMS WIC) program received the prestigious USDA Gold Breastfeeding Award of Excellence 2024 for providing exemplary breastfeeding promotion and support to WIC families. The BMS WIC team previously received the award in 2015.
BMS WIC is a federally funded, state-run program focused on the nutritional wellbeing of low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum individuals, infants, and children up to the age of five. Our WIC program provides participant-centered tailored food packages, nutrition counseling, breastfeeding/chestfeeding promotion and support, and social service referrals to eligible families in communities we serve.

BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers has opened the new BMS Express Urgent Care@Dumont (located at 407 Dumont Ave; Brooklyn, NY 11212) to provide care on an unscheduled walk-in basis to individuals with acute, non-emergency conditions. The Center offers six exam rooms, as well as lab services.
This will be the first Express Care center operated by a stand-alone Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in North and Central Brooklyn.
Patients who do not have a medical home or usual source of care will be provided with information and assistance in selecting a primary care provider that meets their needs (location, specialty services, hours, language access).
Come to BMS Express Urgent Care for:
- Fever, Cold, Sore Throat
- Minor Cuts and Bruises
- Sprains, Strains and Fractures
- Asthma and Allergies
- Women’s healthcare including UTI and STD
- Pediatrics (6 months and older)
In addition to care, the center will provide:
- Care coordination
- Medical lab and testing (phlebotomy)
- Pharmacy (coming soon)
- Diagnostic imaging (coming soon)
